Hastings resident Lovelle Dean Karnatz, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Mary
Lanning Memorial Health Care in Hastings.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd in Hastings with the
Rev. Steven Peeler officiating.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ong Cemetery near Ong.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral
Chapel in Clay Center.

Lovelle was born May 3, 1920, near Ong Neb., to William John and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz.
He grew up in the Davenport area and attended Davenport Community School
through the 11th grade. At that time, he had to help with the farm work with his dad.
On Aug. 29, 1948, he married Margaret Koci and they were blessed with four children.
In 1956, the family moved to Ong where he worked for Clay County Government bin sites.
In 1959, he started working for the local Farmers Co-op. He worked in the elevator and then
the gas station driving the fuel truck.
Lovelle retired in 1983. After retirement, Lovelle took up the hobby of woodworking with
his daughters. They attended many craft shows in the area.
Major interests were traveling, visiting historical sites, camping and fishing. His passion
was spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, great- grandkids and other family members.
While living in Ong, Lovelle was elected to the town council, was a volunteer fire fighter
and served as mayor of Ong.
He also helped to maintain the cemetery.
Lovelle again retired in 1997 and he and Margaret moved to Hastings, Neb.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Hastings, Neb.; daughters, Donna Hunter and
Kathy Fischer, both of Lincoln, Neb., and Doris Larsen of Overbrook, Kan.; son, Dennis
and wife Lucy Karnatz of Mandaree, N.D.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and
one brother, Ray and wife Margaret Karnatz of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Rhodabelle Lowery and Ruby
Lonsdale; grandsons, Travis Hakanson and Jeremy Fischer; and son-in-law, Tom Larsen.
