Confirmation Records indicate that Johann Carl Friedrich was born September 23, 1864 in Cantzow, Mecklenberg, Germany. He was confirmed on April 14, 1878 at St. Paul's by Pastor Johann Schlerf. His father is listed as Carl Karberg. His confirmation verse was 2 Timothy 2:8.

Born in Germany, John came to Janesville with his mother at the age of nine, following the death of his father. He was married to Anna Kamradt in 1884.

Johann was a devout member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, of which he served as trustee for many years. Industrious and possessed of business integrity, Carl was esteemed in the community and beloved by his friends and neighbors.

For many years John was Superintendent of the Janesville Barb Wire Company, then the Janesville Fence & Post Co.

Mrs. Karberg survives as well as one son, Arthur F. and two grandchildren, John and Jane Karberg, all of Janesville.
