Martha Elizabeth Griffin Whitman
88, homemaker

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Martha Elizabeth Griffin Whitman, 88, of Hermitage, Tenn., will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Marshall officiating.

Burial will be in Blanche Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whitman died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Integrated Health Services in Donelson, Tenn.

She was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Lincoln County, Tenn. to Dudley Griffin and Emma Griffin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She was the widow of Oscar Lee Whitman and the mother of Douglas Whitman.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Lee Whitman Sr. of Ardmore; three daughters, Jean Lewter of Ardmore, Sue Galloway of Taft, Tenn. and Dorothy VanderBrink of Hermitage, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.
