Joseph Daniel Curran May 5, 1916 - January 22, 2011 Joseph Daniel Curran, 94, of Corpus Christi, TX, devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away while visiting at the home of his daughter, Donna, in California on January 22, 2011. He was born May 5, 1916, in New Orleans, LA, to John Thaddeus Curran Sr. and Genevieve Ellen O'Connell. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Madeline Roberts; his mother and father; brothers, Douglas James, John Thaddeus Jr., and Malcolm Edward; sisters, Ellen and Baby Girl; son-in-law, Jerry Phillips; grandson, Michael Dana Wright Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Kiara Dawn Price. He is survived by 4 daughters, Sue Wright (Dr. Michael D.) of CA, Linda Phillips of TX, Donna Adams (Frank H.) of CA, Janice Ford (Ronald J.) of MO; 2 sons, John David Curran (Karen) of Maryland and R. Joe Curran (Ilse) of TX; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 3 great- great-grandchildren. Joe graduated in 1932 from Crystal Springs High School, Mississippi, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 42 years. Joe proudly served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Golden City (AP-169) and was honorably discharged in 1946. During his military career, he served on the following ships: USS Melville, USS Borie, USS Drayton, USS Dobbin, NRS New Orleans, NTS Norfolk, USS Corpus Christi, and USS Wainwright. He also received the following medals: Good Conduct, 43 Months Sea Duty, American Area Campaign, American Defense, Asiatic - Pacific Area, and the World War II Victory Medal. Joe had a passion for sports and served as an OSO Little League Baseball coach for more than 20 years. One Little League Baseball field was named "Joe Curran Field" in his honor. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. Joseph will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, TX, and his soul is with Jesus in Heaven. He will always be lovingly remembered by family and friends and the endearing term "baby girl." Visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seaside Memorial Park, with a graveside service on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits
