Samuel Walter Leake was the son of Walter Scott and Margaret Isabelle Bellis Leake of Ray County, Missouri. He was one of nine children. His siblings were George W., Albert A., Gustavus L., Minnie C. (Farris Miller), Mary Jane "Mollie" (Penniston), Florence E., Rufus E., and Otha M.
The Leake family originally came to the United States from England, settling in Goochland County, Virginia. This line of the family settled in Virginia before 1690, in Kentucky before 1790, and Missouri before 1840.
Samuel moved to Douglas County, Oregon, because his aunt and uncle, Louis Marion and Mary Charlotte Bellis Parrott lived there, plus another relative, Margeret Bellis 1. McGee, Grubbe, 3. Durand of Oakland. He married Theodocia Dora Agee (a teacher in Oakland)on Nov. 26, 1893, at the home of her parents in Wibur, Douglas Co, OR. They had one child, Walter Louis Leake (1894, Oakland, OR) and settled in Dixonville (aka Deer Creek), OR, owning 160 acres, 30 of it in prunes. They bought their land from the Parrott family.
