Velma H. Humbarger, 90, life long resident of Herington, died Monday, April 25th, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born on July 18, 1920, in Herington the daughter of William and Emma (Strauss) Albrecht.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, (Lyons Creek) Herington; with Rev. John Riebhoff officiating. Musician for the service is Virginia Riebhoff. Serving as casket bearers; Gary Humbarger, Richard Humbarger, Dr. Glenn Humbarger, Mark Humbarger, John Lawrence, Dean Obermeyer, and Dr. Bill Boemer. Burial will follow at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2pm until 7pm at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel; and a prayer service will be held at 7pm Wednesday.

Mrs. Humbarger was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, and the Altar Guild. She enjoyed reading, needlework, gardening, and flowers.

She was united in marriage to Henry Humbarger, Jr. on June 30, 1941, at Wichita; who died on September 19, 1989. She is also preceded in death by two (2)brothers: her twin Elmer Albrecht in 1948 and Leonard Albrecht in 1991; and her parents.

She is survived by four (4) sons: Gary Humbarger (wife-Joyce) Merriam, Richard Humbarger (wife-Alane) of Lawrence, Dr. Glenn Humbarger (wife-Kathy) Overland Park, Mark Humbarger of Manhattan; three (3) daughters: Sherry Lawrence (husband-John) of Clinton, OK, Marsha Obermeyer (husband-Dean) of Herington, Joyce Boemer (husband-Dr. Bill) of Dallas, TX; two (2) sisters-in-law: Bernadine Albrecht of Herington and Anna Marie Bridge of Ocean Springs, MS; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
