Obituary printed in the Burlington Daily Republican
Former Resident Buried at LeRoy Page 5

Mrs. Roswell Norton died Sunday, April 11, 1926 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ketchum, in Moran at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 80 days. The body was taken to LeRoy Tuesday afternoon and services were held from the Christian church at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Dr. A.C. Babcock, who was assisted by Rev. N.S Franklin of Moran. Burial was in the LeRoy cemetery.
Elizabeth M. Baldwin was born in Bloomington, IL, April 12, 1840. When still a small child her parents moved to Havana, IL where she lived until her marriage to George W. Coat in 1857. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Lawrence, KS to make their home. Many dangers and privations were encountered in building a home in the West in those days. To this union was born three children: Harriett Josephine [Coat] Ross who met such a tragic death four years ago, Lucy Coat who died in early childhood and Emma L. [Coat] Garner of New Orleans, LA. The husband {George W.} was killed by Quantrill's raid on Lawrence. Many Free State men surrendered their lives at this time and many homes were laid in ruins from the first started by the raiders.
She remained in Lawrence administering to the wants of the soldiers stationed there by proving a place where they could secure their meals.
In 1865 she married Roswell Norton, a soldier who was stationed at Lawrence. Soon after their marriage they moved to Burlington, KS where Roswell A. Norton and Nellie Owings were born. In 1871 they moved on a farm one mile East of LeRoy where Turie J. Ketchum and Joe E. Norton were born. In a few years they moved to LeRoy where they made their home for many years and it was here that Mr. Norton passed away in 1895. The son Roswell A. whom everyone knew as "Buddy" had preceded him in death in 1887. After Mr. Norton's death she, with her daughter, Turie, continued to live at the old home, moving to LaHarpe after some years. They resided at LaHarpe until a little over a year ago when she moved to Moran together with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ketchum.
In about the year 1884, she and her husband and their daughter, Nellie united with the Presbyterian church in LeRoy and remained a member of this church until she passed away. During her last illness she expressed her faith in her Savior and said she was ready to go.
She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, Emma L. Garner of New Orleans, LA, Nellie C. Owings of Medicine Lodge, KS, and Turie J. Ketchum of Moran, KS; one son, Joe E. Norton of Wichita, KS, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grand children.
