William M. Johnson, son of John Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Smith, arrived in Hamilton County IL just before year 1820. On April 25, 1823 in Hamilton County he married Elizabeth Matilda Odell/Odle. William and Elizabeth were charter members of Little Springs Church, organized in January 1828 (Hamilton County). William and Elizabeth can be found on the 1830 census in Hamilton County IL, on the 1840 census in Curran, Gallatin County, in 1840 in Raleigh, Saline County IL (formerly part of Gallatin County), and in 1860 in Monmouth, Shawnee County KS. By record, it appears the Johnson family left IL between 1858-1860 on their journey west. William and Elizabeth had 11 children, 7 sons and four daughters, which included:
