Uncle Edward Morris Carico served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS LST 264 while he was in the Navy. When the Korean Conflict erupted he joined the United States Army. He was serving with the 2nd Infantry Division when reported MIA. The casualty date listed is 19510518. His name is engraved on a stone monument in the Pacific War Memorial at Punch Bowl Crater. It is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The monument is one of several located at the base of the memorial. It is located on the right side. He has a stone also in his remembrance located near his mother and grandparent's graves in the family cemetery located on Pine Creek, Dickenson County Virginia. His Grandfather Frank Monroe Beverly named it the Cumberland Cemetery. The cemetery is located on a hill surounded by woods. It is located behind the Pine Creek Church.

The inscription on his stone: IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF CORPORAL EDWARD MORRIS CARICO, BORN APRIL 9, 1924, WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY IN MILITARY OPERATIONS IN KOREA. HE STANDS IN THE UNBROKEN LINE OF PATRIOTS WHO HAVE DARED TO DIE, THAT FREEDOM MIGHT LIVE AND GROW AND INCREASE ITS BLESSINGS IN A WAY THAT HUMBLES THE UNDERTAKINGS OF MOST MEN. HE IS THE SON OF LABAN AND CORA CARICO.

Page 152: Navy, served aboard an LST which means, Landing Ship Tank. During the Invasion of Normandy, France, I {Walter Arthur Carico} met him in England prior to D-Day. His ship was in dock in harbor in Plymouth, England. He was discharged from the Navy in 1945.

Worked for a time for a shipping company. He entered service again in 1948 and 1950. Was sent to Korea and was declared missing in action, May, 1951. No other information received by the family since 1951. {Walter Arthur Carico}
