Marjorie Ann Hollis Calton passed away peacefully on January 21, 2011, in Abilene at the age of 82. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 25, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary in Abilene. An interment service for the family will be at 2:00 P.M. at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 24, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home on Hickory Street.

Marjorie was born on November 9, 1928, in Kirbyville, Texas, to Henry Hayden and Mamie Barlow Hollis. After graduating from Kirbyville High School, she attended and graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University) in 1948. She worked as an administrative secretary in Waco at the Veteran's Administration before accepting employment in the office of First Baptist Church, Waco. It was there that she met her future husband, Doyle Lavon Calton. When they married in 1951, she became a homemaker and later a mom to two daughters, Ann and Amy. They moved from Waco to Abilene in 1967. Marjorie received an insurance license and, for several years, sold insurance and oversaw finances for the elderly.

Marjorie was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Abilene for 43 years. She and Doyle taught Sunday School for young married couples. Marjorie served on a number of church committees and was involved in the choir. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality. She loved having guests in her home and ministering to those in need, and she rarely missed acknowledging people's birthdays and anniversaries.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and by her husband, Doyle.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Lavon Calton of Abilene, and daughter and son-in-law, Chuck and Amy Eaton of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Kevin, and Allison Eaton; and a host of other family members and close lifetime friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Allen Schultz and the staffs of Primary Nurse Care and Hendrick Hospital for their exceptional care of Marjorie.

Memorials may be made to CityLight or Abilene Baptist Association of Social Ministries in care of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 85, Abilene, TX, 79604.
