George William Todd was the son of Jesse George Todd and his second wife Lucy (Winn) Todd, both natives of Missouri.

George had one full-sibling:

Ida Mae (Todd) Mason 1840-1931

George had one half-sibling from his father's first marriage to Mahala (Muns):

Lavina Isabelle (Mendenhall) 1858-1935

NOTE: The photo on this memorial is of George William Todd and his mother Lucy (Winn) Todd.

1880 census of Walnut Creek, Macon County, Missouri:

Jessie Todd 40, farmer
Lucy Todd 35
Ida Todd 11
George W. Todd 9

Sometime between 1880 and 1900, George's parents divorced.

George William Todd married Bertha Dennis in Elmer, Macon County, Missouri, on March 8, 1896. Because of Bertha's young age, her mother Lucy E. Varvil gave consent to the marriage.

George and Bertha had three children:

1. Lucy E. Todd 1896-1918 (named for her maternal grandmother)
2. Jessie M. (Todd) Overcast 1898-1976 (named for her paternal grandfather)
3. Henry Todd ?-1908

George William Todd had been blind since the age of 21. He had a difficult time making a living for his family. After he and Bertha were married, they lived with George's father Jessie Todd in Elmer, Macon County, Missouri. In the 1900 census, George was working as a broom maker.

1900 census of Walnut Township, Macon County, Missouri:

Jessie G. Todd 60, farmer (father of George Todd)
George Todd 28, broom maker
Bertha Todd 19
Lucy E. Todd 3
Jessie Todd 1

In this census, son Henry was not yet born. I am not sure of his birth year, but Henry died in about 1908. Then the family moved to Oregon County, Missouri, in about 1909. They were listed in the May 1910 census in that county. Bertha died that same year and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Howell County, Missouri. Jessie, the only child to survive and get married, said her sister Lucy died when she, Jessie, was age 20, which would have been about 1918.

Near the end of his life, George lived with his niece Mrs. William G. (Bertha Elizabeth Mason) Colyer in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri where he died in 1955.

George's obituary and Missouri Death Certificate #17797 state he is buried at Mountain View.

Daughter Jessie married William Overcast and lived in Montana where she died and is buried.
