He began his career when he joined the Minneapolis Times as a cartoonist from 1901 to 1905. King later moved to Chicago where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts and also worked for the Chicago Examiner and the Chicago Tribune also as a cartoonist. Later when King was still worjking for the Tribune he created "Gasoline Alley," his famous comic strip of a family's life. It first appeared in 1919 and through the years right up until the 1960s it grew bigger in fame. (bio by: K)
