Birth: Nov. 14, 1907
Cassia County
Idaho, USA
Death: Feb. 25, 1991
Bannock County
Idaho, USA

Louisa was born to Mannie and Dora Leona Briggs Pickett in Burley Idaho where she grew and went to school. She loved her involvement in plays and musicals. She went to Idaho State College in Pocatello where she obtained her teaching degree and began teaching in Albion and other small schools in southern Idaho. She met Sarel Orien Porter in Pocatello after he returned from his mission in New Zealand. She was teaching school and trying to avoid being released because the district refused to have married women teaching, they eloped to Victor Idaho where they were married. When they returned to Pocatello they discovered their marriage was announced in the local paper. Si and Louisa loved getting together with friends and socializing. They had many friends in the trucking business where Si was employed. Their eldest daughter had health problems because of the cold climate, so they purchased a motel/trailer court in Overton, Nevada, and moved their family of two girls and one boy to warmer climes. Louisa taught third grade in Overton Elementary and Si drove the school bus, worked the motel and in construction for Bob Waymire. After the children were grown Si and Louisa moved briefly to Las Vegas and then to Mesa Arizona, spending summers in Island Park, Idaho. They loved being with Brian and Arilla Blackhurst who lived nearby. Si passed away in Mesa and Louisa moved back to Pocatello, where she died in 1991. She was a remarkable, creative and gifted woman, and during her career created many musical programs and plays for her students. She inspired her children to become all they could be and was fiercely committed to doing right.
