MRS. CALES, PIONEER OF BUCODA, DIES
Funeral Services of Aged Lady Held Wednesday, Burial at Forest Grove
Mrs. Martha Cales, pioneer resident of Bucoda, passed away at 9:30 Monday evening due to a heart attack. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two in the Bucoda Community Church, and burial was made at Forest Grove cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Douglas Morris and Rev. C. B. Seeley.
Mrs. Cales was born in Newton County, Missouri, on June 28, 1850, she being 84 at the time of her death. She came with her husband to Bucoda in 1887. Her husband was killed while hunting in 1912, having been mistaken for a bear by a companion. Mrs. Cales was a member of the Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors order.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Tacoma, Mrs. May Marvin of Frost Prairie, and Miss Cassie Cales of Everett; two sons, M. V. Cales of Centralia and T. F. Cales of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. Mary Haggard of Bucoda; 14 grand children and five great grand children.
