Born in New York City, he was most fondly remembered for his role as Mr. Mooney with Lucille Ball on the popular TV series "Here's Lucy" and "The Lucy Show". He began his career on radio at KFWB Los Angeles in 1926. Over the next two decades he played supporting roles on dramatic shows like "Tarzan", "Gangbusters", "Fibber McGee and Molly" and "Death Valley Days" In 1948, he assumed the role as the tyrannical principal on "Our Miss Brooks", which evolved into the television show of the same name in the 1950s. He died of cancer at age 89 in Escondido, California and was posthumously inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1999. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
