|Birth: ||1723, Germany|
Matthias Kaempffer was my 5th great-grandfather. He was probably born in Germany, although we have no record of his coming to America or a record of his birth here or in Germany.
Matthias married Maria Magdalena Reimer on February 7, 1748 in Northkill, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The wedding was probably performed by Rev. John Casper Stoever. They had at least four children and possibly nine. The first four were Maria Appollonia, Anna Margareta, John Philip, Daniel (my 4th great-grandfather),and probably Jacob, John Matthias, Maria Catherina, Margareta and Eva Barbara.
Matthias married for a second time, probably in 1790,(after the death of Maria),to Salome LNU. I believe he was a farmer.
By the 1790 Census, the last name seems to have been anglicized to Kemp. I believe he died in 1795 in Tulpenhocken, Berks County, Pennsylvania. I am not sure where he is buried, but I am guessing it could be in Rehrersburg. The gravestone could and probably is in German and could have the anglicized version of his name, Matthew Kemp, but I would bet it still has the German version of his name. I hope someone can locate it. Wish I lived there so it could be me!
