In 1954 he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for fundamental research in quantum mechanics which helped pave the way to the development of modern physics and contributed to atomic theory and solid state physics. Born taught at Berlin, Frankfurt, Gottingen, Cambridge, and Edinburgh universities. He also published over 300 papers and twenty books, including "The Restless Universe" (1951), a study of the social implications of scientific development. Maternal Grandfather of singer Olivia Newton-John.
