Mr. John Edward Brewer of Charlotte passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Born April 17, 1954 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Leatrice Clark Brewer and Walter Henry Brewer.
John graduated from Halifax Academy in 1973. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, trained in electronics at Chanute Air Force Base and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. John served throughout the United States and in South Korea during his career as a Flight Simulator Technician. His last duty was with the B2-Stealth Bomber Wing in Warrensburg, MO.
He was a loving and devoted husband; loyal, kind and caring brother and friend. John was an RC airplane enthusiast and a uniquely talented tinkerer, who 'could fix anything.' He always had a ready wit and enjoyed a joke or pun - or, as he would say, he was 'punny!'
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Smith Brewer, with whom he celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on June 11, 2010; daughter, Melanie Wynter; sister, Martha Brewer Denton and her husband, Larry, of Roanoke Rapids; and aunts, Sarah Warren, Anne Stauffer, Caroline Kastelberg, Alice Dickens, and Mary Ladd.
John was predeceased by his parents and mother-in-law, Rose Simril Smith Huneycutt.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00P.M. Sunday, January 23 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association -Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.

CHARLOTTE — A memorial service for John Edward Brewer, a native of Littleton, will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church, Highway 48, South, followed by a reception and grave marker dedication at Cornith United Methodist Church on Justice Branch Road.

He worked for Bell&Howell and recently operated his own lawn equipment repair and maintenance business, where he developed a reputation for his quality work and great service at a fair price. He was also a uniquely talented tinkerer, who could fix "anything." He had a great smile, a ready wit, and always enjoyed a joke or pun.
John was an RC airplane enthusiast who enjoyed movies, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Mille Bourne, history, Jeopardy!, and a wide range of music, from Vangelis and Enya to the Carpenters, Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles. The service will be a celebration of his life and the things that he loved. Family, friends, and classmates are invited to attend.
John was a loving and devoted husband; kind, loyal, and caring brother and friend. He was an honorable man.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; daughter, Melanie Wynter, father-in-law, M.J. Huneycutt, all of Charlotte; sister, Martha Brewer Denton and her husband, Larry, of Roanoke Rapids; and aunts, Sarah Warren, of Littleton, Anne Stauffer, Caroline Kastelberg, Alice Dickens and Mary Ladd.

Kathy, We have very fond memories of John. He has "tinkered" with many items for us over the last few years. He was very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job. He was such a nice guy and we trusted him completely. He was unique in that he only charged what he thought was a fair price which we considered too 'low" so we generally insisted on giving more than the amount quoted. That showed his character. It is so rare to find someone with his ability who was not out to "make a killing" on his repairs. What a generous and sweet spirit. We will miss him. You and your family will be in our prayers..

He was an animal person. John loved cats and his last cat was Cleo. Once, my pet rat Audrey was very sick and I had to go out of town for my uncle's funeral, John and my mom had to hand feed her her medicine for a week. They did a good job and Audrey lived another year! He was always my animal sitter for all my other animals.

John graduated from Halifax Academy in 1973. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, trained in electronics at Chanute Air Force Base and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. John served throughout the United States and in South Korea during his career as a Flight Simulator Technician. His last duty was with the B2-Stealth Bomber Wing in Warrensburg, MO.
He was a loving and devoted husband; loyal, kind and caring brother and friend. John was an RC airplane enthusiast and a uniquely talented tinkerer, who 'could fix anything.' He always had a ready wit and enjoyed a joke or pun - or, as he would say, he was 'punny!'
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Smith Brewer, with whom he celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on June 11, 2010; daughter, Melanie Wynter; sister, Martha Brewer Denton and her husband, Larry, of Roanoke Rapids; and aunts, Sarah Warren, Anne Stauffer, Caroline Kastelberg, Alice Dickens, and Mary Ladd.
John was predeceased by his parents and mother-in-law, Rose Simril Smith Huneycutt.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00P.M. Sunday, January 23 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association -Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.

CHARLOTTE — A memorial service for John Edward Brewer, a native of Littleton, will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church, Highway 48, South, followed by a reception and grave marker dedication at Cornith United Methodist Church on Justice Branch Road.
John passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Charlotte. He was born in Roanoke Rapids on April 17, 1954, the son of the late Leatrice Clark Brewer and Walter Henry Brewer. John graduated from Halifax Academy in 1973. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, trained in electronics at Chanute Air Force Base and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. John served throughout the United States and in South Korea during his career as a Flight Simulator Technician. His last duty was with the B2-Stealth Bomber Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Warrensburg, Mo. John moved to Charlotte in 2000 when he married Kathy Smith Brewer. They were very happily married and celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary last June 11, 2010. The couple were introduced "long distance" by John's sister Martha in 1997. He worked for Bell&Howell and recently operated his own lawn equipment repair and maintenance business, where he developed a reputation for his quality work and great service at a fair price. He was also a uniquely talented tinkerer, who could fix "anything." He had a great smile, a ready wit, and always enjoyed a joke or pun.
John was an RC airplane enthusiast who enjoyed movies, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Mille Bourne, history, Jeopardy!, and a wide range of music, from Vangelis and Enya to the Carpenters, Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles. The service will be a celebration of his life and the things that he loved. Family, friends, and classmates are invited to attend.
John was a loving and devoted husband; kind, loyal, and caring brother and friend. He was an honorable man.

Kathy, We have very fond memories of John. He has "tinkered" with many items for us over the last few years. He was very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job. He was such a nice guy and we trusted him completely. He was an animal person. John loved cats and his last cat was Cleo. Once, my pet rat Audrey was very sick and I had to go out of town for my uncle's funeral, John and my mom had to hand feed her her medicine for a week. They did a good job and Audrey lived another year! He was always my animal sitter for all my other animals.
