Harry Thomas Jasper Kier, age 89, of Tower, Michigan, died at Hospice House in Cheboygan on Saturday January 1, 2011. Harry was born on December 8, 1921 in Hillsboro, Ohio, the son of Francis Kier and Leona (Burris) Kier.
On November 13, 1960 in Cheboygan, Michigan Harry was united in marriage to Frances Marie (Logan) Martin. The Kier's made their home in Springfield, Ohio where Harry had lived for most of his life. Harry worked as a truck driver for Meadowgold, delivering milk and later as a truck driver for Yellow Freight, from where he eventually retired. In 1984, Harry and Frances left Springfield, Ohio and moved to Tower, Michigan.
Harry was a member of the Teamsters and a lifetime member of the Onaway VFW Post 5857. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, notably in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle for the Remagen Bridge.
Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved animals, especially his dog. In the springtime Harry could be found in the woods, pursuing one of his favorite pastimes, hunting for mushrooms.
Surviving Harry were three sons, Larry (Rosemary) Kier of Napa, California, Tom (Kelly) Kier of Indian River, and A. Scott (Dinee) Kier of Carlisle, Ohio; two daughters, Virgina Bauman of Lansing and Carol Ann Kier (Gary Marsden) of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren; and numerous great and great, great grandchildren. Also surviving were brothers, Virgil Kier of Hondo, Texas and James Kier of Shreveport, Louisiana; sister, Lydia (Floyd) Head of Tampa, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Harry Kier was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Kier on July 22, 2000 and by one brother, Richard Kier.
