Lee Foster Brimhall, 91, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, rancher, farmer, builder, solider, missionary, gardener, musician and poet, passed away Jan. 18, 2011, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born in Thatcher, Ariz., on Feb. 15, 1919, to Andrew Noah Brimhall and Inez Edna Lee.

Lee is preceded in death by his parents, older brother Logan and daughter Debra. He is survived by his wife Opal; sons Denis (Becky), Jerry (Ruth), Rodney (Janyne), Steven (Lori); and daughters LaRee Ullery (Rick) and Brenda Richardson (Edmund). His family consists of 35 grandchildren and 75 great-grandchildren.

Lee graduated from the Gila Academy in Thatcher in the spring of 1938 and began serving as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the fall of 1938. After completing his mission in 1940, he enrolled at the University of Arizona, where he earned a University "A" sweater in track. While at the university, he met Opal Trejo, and they were married Sept. 19, 1941, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. In February 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served until honorably discharged in September 1946. He returned home to his family in Thatcher and began farming and ranching.

In the fall of 1956, he sold his holdings and moved his family to Wellton, Ariz., where he farmed until the summer of 1964. Lee then moved his family to Prescott, Ariz., where he ran the Burrow Creek Ranch and built houses. He finally decided to retire and stop working when he turned 87. He loved horses and the outdoors, and to write and recite his poetry at the yearly Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering here in Prescott. He will be missed by those of us left behind, but we know he is in a better place and is happy with the life he lived on this Earth.

A visitation for Lee will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at the Relief Society Room at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Drive, Prescott. A service will follow at 11 a.m. Dedication of the grave will be at the Arizona Pioneer Home Cemetery immediately following the service.

Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
