Mrs. William Batty Succumbed at Northwest Sanitarium Last Saturday—Had Resided at Wawawai 85 Years.
Mrs. William Batty, for 36 years a resident of the Wawawai district, succumbed to a complication of ailments at the Northwest sanitarium last Saturday, aged 60 years and four days. Funeral services were held from the Kimball chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of the Rev. J. G. Law of the Methodist church, and interment was in the City cemetery.
Martha E. Boone was born at Monmouth, Ore., August 10, 1860, and in her early twenties was married to William Batty. In 1885 the family removed to Wawawai, where Mr. Batty engaged in fruit raising on a large scale. About a year ago Mrs. Batty was stricken with illness and was under treatment at the sanitarium in Pullman for 12 weeks prior to her death. As a pioneer of the Wawawai district she was well known throughout the county and leaves hundreds of friends to mourn her death.
Deceased is survived by seven children and numerous grandchildren. All of the four boys reside in the Wawawai district and all are engaged in fruit raising. These are Tom, Clarence, Lancelot and Roy. Of the three daughters Mrs. Ina Long resides at Wawawai, Mrs. Effie Ochs at Penewawa, and Mrs. Alice Johnson at Republic.
