Lyburn Lee "Chick" Tyler was born 19 June 1887 in Gallipolis, Ohio. Lylburn's parents were William Henry Tyler and Margaret N. Tyler. Lylburn was a sheet metal worker, roofer and mechanic. He moved between 1920 and 1930 from Gallipolis, Ohio to Charleston West Virginia. Llyburn had made some trips into Canada in 1912 and 1917 probably to work up there. He married Alice Gertrude Steel about 1917. They had three daughters, Mildred, Mary Ada and Algene. He worked and lived in the Charleston area until his death at the age of 69 on 16 December 1956.
