Sophia's grandparents immigrated to St. Peter, MN, in 1871 and her parents, Knute & Anna Tollefson, owned a farm 5 mi. south of Gaylord, MN, and just a mile north of Norwegian Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Across the road from their farm was that of Jorgen Nereson, one of the early settlers in Sibley County. Jorgen's son, Nere, homesteaded up in Norman County, and his grandson, George, who was born in Gary, married Sophia.
Sophia died young, and her husband also, just 5 years later. Her children lived briefly with their grandparents on the Tollefson farm, and then were raised by their father's sister, Annie, and her husband, Sivert Sundet, in Gary, MN. The Tollefson farm was later operated by Fred & Clara Berg and their son, Donald. Clara was Sophia's sister.
