Sheriff Dies Suddenly
Roy Wickland, 71, formerly sheriff of Crow Wing County for 20 years, died suddenly about 7:45 last evening in Van's Cafe here. He was attending a meeting of the Southeast Brainerd Club as a guest.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Halvorson - Johnson Funeral home.
Mr. Wickland was elected sheriff in 1939 and held the office until January 4, 1959, when he retired and was replaced by present sheriff Al Krueger.
Mr. Wickland is survived by one son, Clement Reimestaad [sic], 923 13th Street Southeast, Brainerd, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Sly, Otis Orchards, Wash.
The former sheriff was a lifelong Brainerd resident. He was born April 6, 1891.
He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Eagles and Elks.

Funeral services for former Crow Wing County Sheriff Roy Wickland will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Halvorson - Johnson Funeral home. The Rev. Gerald Huff will officiate.
Mr. Wickland, 71, died suddenly Friday evening. He had served as Crow Wing County sheriff for 20 years. He resigned in 1959.
Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening and tomorrow until the time of service.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
