Sir Claude Auchinleck
Birth: Jun. 21, 1884
Death: Mar. 23, 1981

British Army Field Marshal. During World War II he opened the 1941 North African campaign that led to the defeat of German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. After winning the first battle of El Alamein, he was relieved of his command for refusing to counterattack Rommel west of Cairo, Egypt.
