The Rev. John D. Witt, a Methodist minister, was a son of Joseph and Sarah Earl Witt. He was born in Adair County, Kentucky, January 1, 1802. In early manhood he went to Alabama to settle but disliked the area and returned to Henry County, Tennessee. He first married Rachel Meek in December 1820. This union produced the following children:

Issac Witt, Born Apr. 23, 1823, Weakley County, Tenn.
Married: Nancy Jane Hamilton, Dec. 1846, Weakley County, Tenn.

On Aug.21, 1828, the Rev. John D. Witt married Charity Dunlap at Paris, Henry County, Tenn. Charity Dunlap, daughter of Moses Dunlap & Margaret Sears, was born in Christian County, Ky. Dec 17, 1808 and died April 2, 1896, Gleason, Tenn. This marriage produced the following children:

Died: January 1, 1915 at McKenzie, Tennessee
Married: Harriet Malvina Nichols, May 19, 1857, Decatur,Ill. (Harriet Nichols, born March 14, 1836, near Salem, Ill. Daughter of Robert Nelson Nichols and Mary Chance. Harriet Nichols Witt died April 9, 1927 at McKenzie, Tenn.)
