He served during the Civil War as a Brigadier General in the New Jersey Militia, and commanded Camp Vredenburgh traning camp near Freehold, New Jersey. He was elected to represent New Jersey's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1867 to 1871. He also served as a member of New Jersey State House of Assembly from 1860 to 1862, and Speaker of the New Jersey State House of Assembly from 1861 to 1862. (bio by: K)
