History of Maries Co, MO by Everett M. King, page 716: William N. Rowden, the remaining child of James E. Rowden, was the father of ten children by his marriage with Mary Carnes. Both parents and four of the children are dead. The four who have passed away are: Louis A. Rowden who married Virginia Backues, daughter of Thomas and was the father of one son, Arthur, who married Docie Humphrey and died childless; no children were born of the second marriage, to Sarah, daughter of Wilburn Humphrey; the second wife survives and is now the wife of John Sloan.

Nancy Rowden, also deceased, married John Morrow and was the mother of four sons: James of Crocker, Everett of Jefferson City, Charles of Kansas City, and Gordon of St. Louis.

Abram Rowden, the third of William N. Rowden's children to die, married Nettie Burns and moved to Franklin County some years ago, where he died. His widow is now Mrs. Fred Crow and lives at Union, together with the seven children born of the first marriage: Nancel, Ishmael, Charlsie, Paul, Brooksie, Lorene, and Carlos Rowden.
Aurabelle Rowden, the fourth deceased child, married Cleve Burns; she left two sons, Clyde of Dixon, and Burton of Washington.

The six living children of William N. Rowden are: Amanda E., widow of W. A. Q. Boyce at Brinktown; Jehu Monroe who married Ella Baker and lives near Hancock; Margaret, wife of Elbert Humphrey, of Brays; Thomas who married Mary Gray and lives at Sperry, Oklahoma; John who married Elizabeth, daughter of Colonel Barnhart, and lives at Washington; and another son, Dora, who married her sister, Ethel, and lives in Kansas City.
