Ruffie "Buster" O'Neal Ackerman, of Ladson, passed away January 12, 2011.

He was born in Andrews, SC, on April 28, 1934, to the late Eddie Ruffie Ackerman and Anna McCants Ackerman.

Ruffie was a United States Army veteran. He retired as a nuclear inspector from the Charleston Naval Shipyard and Detyen's Shipyard. He was known as a hard worker to all who knew him as well as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ackerman; daughter, Linda Orr and husband Dennis; son, Gregory Ackerman and wife, Terri; three grandchildren, Stacey Champy and husband, Joseph, Emily and Grayson Ackerman; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, William "Bill" Ackerman of Goose Creek, Albert Ackerman of Mt. Pleasant, and Ronnie Ackerman of Georgetown; and four sisters, Margie Clark of Goose Creek, Mary McClary of Georgetown, Adell Sheenan of Georgetown, and Rose Freeman of Goose Creek.

Ruffie was preceded in death by his brothers, Laverne and Jerry Ackerman.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
