Martha was the daughter of Allen Ferguson & Charlotte Ellen Ford. She married John L. Brown 25 Mar 1877, Concord, Adams, Illinois, married John Sauer 1903.
Mrs Mattie E. Sauer, wife of John Sauer, a pipe-fitter at the Wabash shops, was found dead by her husband at 6:30 o'clock Thursday evening when he returned after work at
their home at 714 East Condit street. She had been stricken with heart failure while dressing to take dinner with her daughter, Mrs. Maude Moore, 1126 East Locust street. Apparently Mrs Sauer had died during the forenoon. She had promised Mrs. Moore that she would dlne with her at noon. Mrs. Moore waited dinner on her mother until 12:30 o'clock and finally decided that there was no use to wait any longer. Mr. Sauer returned home from the Wabash shops at 4:20 Thursday afternoon. All the doors were locked. He was not surprised at that for his wife frequently went out to canvass in the various parts of the city. He waited until 6:30 and then borrowed a key from a neighbor and unlocking the door went in. As he entered the living room he found his wife dead on the couch. She was partly dressed and clean clothing was near indicating that death had come while she was dressing to go to her daughters. Coroner Elmer O Brintlinger was notified and held the inquest Thursday evening. The verdict was that death was due to natural causes. Mrs. Sauer was fifty four years old last July. She was apparently in good health when Mr. Sauer went to work Thursday morning. Mrs. Sauer was born July 27, 1861. She was twice married. Her first husband being J.L. Brown. She and John Sauer were married in 1903. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children: O.A. Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa, T.A. Brown of Hannibal, Mo., Mrs. Maude Moore of Decatur and B.T. Brown of Stringtown, Okla. The body was removed to the Brintlinger undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the residence, 714 East Condit street. Interment will be in Fairlawn cemetery. The body was taken home Friday.
