Sarah Ann Hope was born 16 Oct 1819 in Winchester, Clark county Kentucky to George Washington Hope & Philadelphia Dunn and she was the granddaughter of John & Prudence Freeman Dunn. As a young child, she came to Gallatin county Illinois with her mother, brothers and sisters. A few years later they relocated to Morgan County Illinois.

8 Sept 1838 Sarah married Michael Palmer in Morgan county Illinois. They had the following children before Michael passed away on 4 Nov 1853: Ursula E., Martha, Elizabeth, Alexander, James, Henry Owen & Lavina.

14 Jan 1855 Sarah remarried widower, George Whitfield Conlee who had first married Lavina Antle on 18 March 1832 in Morgan county Illinois. Whitfield & Lavina had seven children before she passed away on 8 Oct 1853. Sarah & Whitfield went on with their family adding five more children: Ellen, Alva Maupin, Lucy Hester, Samantha & Ancil J. to the Conlee name.

Sarah Ann Hope Palmer Conlee, Lavina Antle Conlee & George Whitfield Conlee are all buried in Sulpher Springs Cemetery.

OBITUARY:

Survived by the following children: Alexander Palmer of East St. Louis, Alva Conlee of Roodhouse, Elder Ancil Conlee of White Hall, Ursula Conlee of Pisgah, Mrs. John Spainhower of Pisgah, Mrs. Martha Williams of Franklin, and Mrs. Samantha Weller of Carlinville; twenty nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; and two step-children: Thomas Conlee of Carlinville, Mrs. Roxanne Wright of Springfield.

Preceded in death by her husbands; four children; and six step-children.
