The son of entertainers Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and the brother of Ricky Nelson, he is best known for appearing on his parents' TV program "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" (1952 to 1966). Born in New York City, he moved with his family to Hollywood during the early 1940s, and in 1944 his parents began their own radio series. In 1949, David and Ricky would be coaxed by their parents into appearing on the program and they both became regular cast members. During the run of the TV series, David attended the University of Southern California, and launched his individual acting career, appearing in a string of substantial roles in the features "Peyton Place" (1957), "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" (1959), "The Big Circus" (1959) and "The Big Show" (1961). During the 1970s, Nelson turned to directing with episodes of the TV programs "Ozzie's Girls" and "Adam-12", in addition to commercials. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in television. He died of complications from colon cancer. (bio by: C.S.)
