Alonzo Hemstreat served as a Private in Company F of the 105th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He was mustered into Federal service on September 9, 1861.

He was killed in action on July 2, 1863, in the heavy fighting in the Peach Orchard.

A pocket book, small bible, and 50 cents were found on his body.

He was later reinterred in the New York Plot in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Section F, Site #69.
