Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he served as a Sergeant in Company E, 11th Ohio Cavalry, US Army. During the Powder River Expedition in Dakota Territory, on September 17, 1865, Sergeant Thomas carried a message through terrain infested with hostile Indians and saved the life of a fellow trooper. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor August 24, 1894. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
