Similarly, his birth year was variously recorded as being 1848 to 1854. It is most likely he was born in 1853 and emigrated to the US in about 1873. He was working as a waiter in a restaurant in Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri in 1880. On 29 Nov 1880 he married Susanna 'Anna' Klein, daughter of August Klein and Mannie (Biedermann) Klein. They had only one child, son Emil Freudenthal (1886-1976). The family moved to Chicago in the 1890s. In Chicago Louis worked first as a waiter and then owned a cleaning and dying business for a time. In the 1920s and '30s he and Emil ran an electrical contracting business. According to a family history provided by Emil's wife, Hilde, Louis had 8 siblings. One brother was a physician in Europe, one a clothing merchant in London and one was in the clothing business in New York. A sister, Rosa (Freudenthal) Monnish, [Find A Grave Memorial# 55958036] ran a women's clinic in Atlanta Georgia. His parents are not known.
