Immigrant Timothy shay came from Ireland. It is not completely understood where in America he first settled. There are some that believe he was related to the Shays of Shays Rebellion fame and that he visited family in Massachusetts before going south. Others believe he lived in Virginia and came to New Jersey from there. Either way it will take more investigation to validate this information.
Timothy, after thirteen children and his wife, Mary (Drake) Shay died, remarried on January 26, 1825 to widow Mary (Rupert) Emery who had been the second wife of Jacob Emery, the father of David Shay's wife, Johanna Emery.
