William G. Elkin, 84, of 2443 Willowhurst Circle, died the night of Sept. 28, 2010, at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 12, 1926 in Vandergrift, Pa., William was a son of Earl and Helen Barnett Elkin. He married Mary E. Moore on Jan. 19, 1952. He was a graduate of Vandergrift High School and served his country in the Navy during World War II. He retired from Mesta Machine in 1984 after 28 years of service as a fitter in the weld shop. Mr. Elkin was a member of the American Legion Post 343 and a member of Third Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law; Dawn and William Byers of West Middlesex and Elizabeth and John Baranski of Boardman; two brothers, Richard Elkin of Peachtree, Ga. and Corbett Elkin of Vandergrift; and a sister, Josephine Schumaker of Vandergrift. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Elkin. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Hughes will officiate.
