Lois Dean Gleason, 96, died at 6:50 p.m. Jan. 8, 2011, at Lima Convalescent Home.

She was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Nashville to James K. and Ella Perin Dean, who preceded her in death. On June 9, 1938, she married Howard E. Gleason, who died May 8, 2000.

Mrs. Gleason was a retired school teacher, having taught home economics at Huntsville, Cairo and Lima South Junior High School. She was a 1933 graduate of Peabody Demonstration High School in Nashville. She graduated from Miami University, Oxford, in 1937. She was a 62-year member of Market Street Presbyterian Church. She also had been a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Allen County Swim and Racquet Club, The Orchard Hills Tennis Club, the YWCA, and The American Association of University Women. She was an avid tennis player, having been Lima City Champion for both singles and doubles for many years. She was inducted into the Women's Athlete Hall of Fame through the Lima YWCA in 1992. She also loved to play bridge and played just months before her death.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne (Clyde) Folk, of Marina, Calif., and Jo Ann (Erwin) Maurer, of Allen, Texas; a son, Carl (Susan) Gleason, of Ravenswood, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Myrna (Bob) Lindquist, of Elyria; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was the eighth child of nine siblings, and was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Market Street Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Susan Reichenberg will officiate. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at the church. A luncheon will be provided immediately after services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Operating Trust Fund of Market Street Presbyterian Church, 1100 W. Market St., Lima, OH 45805. Checks should be made out to Operating Trust Fund of MSPC.
