Leona Ruth (Darm) Dooley
(December 10, 1927 - January 7, 2011)
Leona Ruth Dooley, 83, of Ottawa, went to be with the Lord on Friday January 7, following a lengthy battle with cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with the Rev. John Walker, Pastor, of First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dooley was born December 10, 1927, in Streator to Walter and Nora (Bach) Darm. She spent her childhood years in Streator and was a 1946 graduate of Streator High School. She married LaVerne E. Dooley on June 4, 1949 in Park Presbyterian Church in Streator.
She is survived by her husband, LaVerne; three children, Bradford (Rhonda) Dooley of Long Grove, IL, Linda Kay (Roger) Walter of Marseilles and David (Janet) Dooley of Highlands Ranch, CO; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Dooley of Tuttle, OK; a sister, Pat Nelson of Broomfield, CO; 11 grandchildren, Lee (Joanne) Dooley of Norman, OK, Zachary (Stacy) Dooley of San Diego, CA, Joshua Dooley of Tau', Mauna', American Samoa, Cindy (Jonathon) Olson of Joliet, Melissa (Jonathan) Halter of Hoffman Estates, Robin (Richard) DeCamp of Rockford, Justin (Jennifer) Dooley of Springfield, Adam (Brooke) Walter of Grand Ridge, Kerri Walter of Ottawa, Ted Walter of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Anthony and Saffron Walter of Marseilles; a step-grandchild Brandon Walter of Delaware, OH. Eight great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first born son, Allan Lee Dooley; a sister, Meta Mattes and a brother, Walter Darm.
Mrs. Dooley was a homemaker. She was a great cook and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to talk to people and she never met a stranger. She was extremely proud of her family.
With assistance, Mrs. Dooley was able to stay at home until the last two months of her life, which were spent at Rivershores Care Center in Marseilles.
Pallbearers will be Lee, Zachary and Justin Dooley, Adam Walter, Jonathon Olson and Gary Modesitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Walter, Jonathan Halter, Brandon Walter and Richard DeCamp, and Bill Dooley, Sr.
