Nellie Mae Upton of Madisonville, went home to be with her Lord early Friday evening May 6, 2011. surrounded by family and friends. She was amember of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland and also former member of Friendship Baptist Church of Madisonville and Inter City Church of Knoxville. She loved going to church and praising God. Mama Nellie was definitely the "matriarch" of her grandclan!
She was 94.
Preceded in death by: her husband. Gustine Upton; parents Fletcher and Kate Black; daughter Elizbeth Upton. Sons William, Charles and Eddie Upton; granddaughters, Daviena Casby and O'Shauna Upton; grandsons, Luther Upton and Marty Wilkerson, sister, Blanche Jones, Lillian Walker, Lorene Long and Margaret Dyer, and brother, Rev Fred Black and Bill Black.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Josephine Wilkerson of Madionville; Beverly and James Dunn of Cleveland; and Brenda and Thomas Hardy of Loudon.
Sons and Daughter-in -law; Rev David and Katherine Upton and Kenneth Upton, all of knoxville. and Rev Jerry and Janice Upton of Lenoir City. Sisters Helen Siler and Betty Black, both of Madisonville. Thirty seven grandchildren, Ninety four great-grandchildren and Eighteen Great-Great Grandchildren. A devoted granddaughter, Pamela Upton assisted with her home care for three years. Loyace Ann Upton of Knoxville and Warnel Davis of Madisonville were consistently caring and dedicated to Mama Nellie for many years.
Home going services were held Tuesday, May 10, at 2 PM at Shiloh Missionary Baptist with paster Rev Alfred Johnson officiateing. Internment will be Wednesday morning at 10AM at Park City Cemetery in Madisonville. Services of loving memory entrusted to M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home, Athens
