Willis A. Stenzel, 92, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Genoa Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 11, 10:30 A.M. at the Palestine Baptist Church, rural Lindsay, with Pastor Carl Edwards officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 5:00 P.M. at the Ramaekers Patrick Funeral Chapel in Genoa and on Tuesday from 9:30 10:30 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Willis Albert Stenzel was born November 19, 1918, at his rural home near St. Edward, Nebraska, to Albert and Jennie (Nelson) Stenzel. The family moved to rural Monroe where Willis lived until his retirement from farming. He attended Okay School District #32 and graduated from Monroe High School in 1935. Willis was a member of the 4-H, track, and enjoyed playing softball while in school. On February 8, 1948, Willis was united in marriage to Alta Ruth Thomazin in Albion, Nebraska. They raised their 4 sons on the family farm. He started playing the accordion in 1940 and continued playing throughout his life. He played for nursing homes and was a member of the Pawnee Senior Citizen's Band. While farming, Willis' pride was raising purebred Shorthorn cattle which his children showed at fairs. He played horseshoes for the Pawnee Ringers Club on the Merrick County Boy's team for 24 years. After his retirement in 1988, Willis moved to Genoa. Willis was a member of the Monroe School Board of Education and Highland Park Evangelical Free Church.
