THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, Thursday, 26 Apr 1990..

Clay 'Pamp' Daughtrey, 85, formerly of Rt.#1, Powderly, now of Parkview Nursing Home, died at St. Joseph's Hospital at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, 25 Apr 1990.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, 27 Apr, at the Evangel Church of God with the Revs. Joe Blackshear, Glen Martin and Othoe Stegall officiating. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home will make burial in Red Hill Cemetery.

He was born Nester Clay Daughtrey on the 22 Oct 1894, in Pee Dee Community of Lamar County, a son of James William Daughtrey and Alice Westbrook Daughtrey. He attended Pee Dee schools and married Theo Roberts on 20 Aug 1918. They lived in the Slate Shoals and Bounds communities until 7 Nov 1989, when they moved to Paris. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Evangel Church of God and of its adult Sunday school class. He was a member of the Powderly Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Orie J. Daughtrey in 1977, Edwin Earl Daughtrey in 1988, and James Wesley 'Jabo' Daughtrey in 1970.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Margarette (Harold) King of Memphis, TN, Mrs. Betty Jean (James W.) Lynch of Powderly, Mrs. Wilma Faye (J.D.) Rook of Powderly, and Mrs. Fannie Belle (O.M.) Shepard of Killeen; two sons, Glenn Wilburn Daughtrey of Powderly and Elvis Robert Daughtrey of Paris; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Fannie Daughtrey and Florence Daughtrey, both of Powderly.

Pallbearers are Lewis Wiess Jr., Junior Blackshear, O.D. Hindman, Pat Bounds, Charles Ware and C.E. Gay.
