Martha was the daughter of Stephen Coe and Betsy Hart. There is very little info on Martha's parents. Stephen Coe is first seen in 1814 and 1817 in the Roane County, TN Court records listed as a pauper. A 1815 court record indicates "Ordered by the Court that there be paid unto Stephen Coe twenty dollars a year to be paid quarterly out of any County monies not ohterwise appropriated. Note in the margin "Copy of order Fd June 6th 1815, debd to Hartwell Hart". It is thought that Stephen Coe moved to McMinn County, TN with two of his sons (Wesley Allen and Vincent Coe) as he appears again as a pauper in the 1826 McMinn County court records. Speculation is that he died in McMinn County sometime after that date
Martha married Jesse E. Casey 10 May 1817 in Roane County, Tennessee. The marriage bond and license were dated 4 April 1817 but the Justice of the Peace who performed the ceremony (James McPherson) listed the date of the ceremony as 10 May 1817. The actual date is unclear.
Martha and Jesse were the parents of twelve children.
