Ruth Roth Hothorn, 100, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011.

Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on April 20, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Stella Acker Roth. Ruth was a graduate of East Stroudsburg College, and held elementary school teaching certificates in Pennsylvania and New York.

Married to Kurt E. Hothorn on July 18, 1931, they settled first in Tuckahoe, New York, and shortly thereafter moved to Scarsdale, where they raised their family and resided for sixty years.

Ruth enjoyed a lifetime of volunteer positions, and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and The Woman's Club of White Plains. She traveled extensively with her husband during retirement years, and enjoyed vacation homes in both Nantucket and Barbados. Her greatest loves were family, dear friends, and her beloved pets. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a lifelong appreciation of music, and was a patron of the Metropolitan Opera for decades.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Kurt, and one sister, Helen Saylor. She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Renz (Bud) of White Plains, New York, and her son, Kurt Hothorn, Jr. (Cheryl) of Greenwich. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tim, Jon, and Rick Renz, and seven great-grandchildren, Seth, Alyssa, Jonathan, Jennifer, Katie, Tyler, and Sara Renz.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 25 Crane Road, Scarsdale, with interment immediately following in Kensico Cemetery.
