Misfortunes in families as well as in other matters, as a general rule seldom comes singly, and we also regret to chronicle that Mrs. Sweet's brother - John Denslow, of Stockbridge - met with an accident while at work on a threshing machine that pulled the flesh from one of his legs, from the knee to the foot. It is being carefully treated by Dr. Garrey but amputation may be necessary.
Chilton Times Journal - August 24th, 1878 Page 4
DEAD.--We mentioned last week that John Denslow, a brother of Mrs. Sweet who was recently killed at Lombard, Ill., was dangerously injured by a threshing machine, and in this issue we regret to announce that Mr. Denslow departed for "the better land" on Wednesday. His injuries were so severe that he had no feeling in any portion of the injured limb and consequently amputation could not have saved him. His system became effected by blood poison and he had to go. He was a native of New York, aged about 47 years, resided in Stockbridge for about 30 years and was always recognized as an honest man. He left a widow and two children behind him.
