Lacey was my first spangle, and a truly gorgeous bird. Her throat spots looked like the phases of the moon. She was a sweet budgie hen who allowed you to pick her up, stroke her feathers, and be her friend. She was also friendly and curious about other budgies. Lacey was rather passive, and had to be encouraged to exercise. As she aged, she had a weight problem no matter how much veggies were increased and fatty seeds decreased. She continued to be a very well-rounded bird!
Lacey had some endearing mannerisms. She would "dance" flamenco, moving along the perch and swinging her head back and around in expressive motion. She would also fling her head back and look in a coquettish way, though she had no real notions of nestboxing with any of her male companions.
Lacey was a sweet and beautiful bird who led a full life and died at the age of nine years, nine months.
