Prize-winning Science Fiction Author. He was the illegitimate son of a sailor and a prostitute, but he did go to Yale University where he dropped out twice in order to persue his writing career in New York City under the mentorship of Damon Knight (who also died in 2002). His novels had wide-ranging themes interjected with dark humor. He also created several computer role-playing games.
