Esther Blachford, 86, of Miller, died Wednesday, December 29 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5 at the First Baptist Church in Miller with Rev. Kent Atkinson officiating. Visitation will be at the Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4. Burial will be at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller.

Esther was born May 31, 1924 at Omaha, Nebraska to Anton and Iva (Bower) Jensen. She was raised in Omaha, and attended South High School graduating in 1941. On August 26, 1942 Esther married Virgil Laverne Almond in Miller. They resided on a farm south of Miller until Virgil's death in 1967. She then moved to Miller, and worked at the Hand County Hospital as a nurses aide. She was married to Norman Blachford on September 21, 1968 in Pierre. Esther lived her entire life in Miller until recently when she moved into the Highmore Healthcare Center. After many years of devotion at the hospital, she retired from that position to provide daycare for area children. She truly loved her job and loved providing for the children. She had many talents, including crocheting, knitting, sewing and baking. She spent countless hours making clothes, hats and gloves as gifts.

Esther is survived by two daughters, Virleen (Ed) Brown of Tuolomne, CA, Marsha (Rod) Davis of Miller; two sons, Rick (Bev) Almond of Kimberling City, MO, David (Joni) Blachford of Miller; 25 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton Jensen and Iva Rosella (Bower) LeStrange, step-father Bill LeStrange, husbands Virgil Almond and Norman Blachford, son Preston Virgil Almond, daughter Kathy (Almond) Stanphill, grandson Chris Swartz, and brother Robert Jensen
