Dietrich (Dick) Julius Otto Detert was born March 15, 1912, the son of Albert and Marie "Mary" (Stelter) Detert in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Ceylon, Minnesota. He attended school at District # 17, Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Minnesota, and Christian summer school at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He married Zelda (Graplar) Detert on September 14, 1941, in St. James Lutheran Church, Northrop, Minnesota. he farmed in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Minnesota for two years before moving to Lake Belt Township in Martin County, where he retired in 1980. Dick was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church serving as elder and serving on various other committees. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, hockey, and watching all sports on T.V.
Dick died Wednesday morning December 29, 1999, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of eighty-seven years.
He is survived by his wife, Zelda Detert of rural Dunnell, Minnesota; two daughters, Karen Mack and her husband, Weston of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Joanne Eversman of St. Peter, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Kristine Mack of Nashville, Tennessee, lee and Melissa Thompson of Bon Aqua, Tennessee, Heidi and Emily Eversman of St. Peter, Minnesota; one brother, Harold Detert and his wife, Kathryn of Ceylon, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Detert of Fairmont, Minnesota, one brother-in-law, Curtis Anderson of Ceylon, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Brian Eversman; one brother, George Detert; one brother-in-law, Harold Graplar; and one sister-in-law, Wilma Anderson.
