ROY SICHLEY WAR CASUALTY

KILLED IN BELGIUM DEC. 26TH; WITH PATTON'S THIRD ARMY; FOLKS NOTIFIED
A war department notification received yesterday advised Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sichley of Wymore that their son, Pfc. Roy E. Sichley was killed in aciton in Belgium Dec. 26. Pfc. Sichley who was with General Patton's Third army entered service July 3, 1943 and left for overseas duty in January 1944. The twenty year old infantryman landed first in England and then saw action in France and Germany.

He has two brothers also overseas; Seaman first class Russell S. Sichley who is serving in the southwest Pacific and Pfc. Carl D. Sichley who is in India with the army air force.

Besides his parents and the above mentioned brothers he leaves two brothers, Dale and Dwanie, at home, and six sisters; Mrs. Fern Langley, Mrs. Lauree Stewart and Mrs.Lula Kuhn, all of Beatrice, Mrs. Pearl Richey of Wymore, Mrs. Mary Pelham of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Ruby Reddick of Calton, Cal.

OBITUARY--PFC. ROY E. SICHLEY
Funeral services were held Dec. 5th from the Laughlin funeral chapel at Wymore, Nebr., for Private First Class Roy E. Sichley, who was killed in action in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 26th, 1944. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Sichley, he was born at Beatrice on July 11th, 1924.

He attended Beatrice grade and high school until 1942 when his parents moved to Portland, Ore. He was employed at the Vancouver, Wash., shipyards until he was inducted into the army on July 3, 1943, at Fort Lewis, Wash.. He was placed in the Fourth Division in the Third army and was transferred to Fort Knox, Ky. where he received his basic training. After completing his training he spent a 15 day furlough at home and was then transferred to Fort George Meade, Maryland. He was sent to New York and then to England and saw action in France and Germany. He was killed at the age of 20 years, five months and 15 days.

He was awarded the Gold and Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the Infantryman's Badge. Surviving are his parents, four brothers, Dale and Duane of the home (Duane is now serving in the Third Armoured Division at Fort Knox, Ky., Russell, jr., and Carl Dean of Portland, Ore.; six sisters, Mrs. Lester Reddick, San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Chester Langley, Mrs. Gilbert Stewart, Mrs. Raymond Kuhn, all of Beatrice, Mrs. Virgil Pelham of Marysville, Kas., and Mrs. O.O. Richey of Wymore.

An army chaplain was in charge of services and military services were held at the Wymore cemetery where burial took place.
